The goal of the group therapy process is honesty regarding difficult life problems. This honest environment enhances each member’s ability to explore and manage emotional struggles with support from other men. In addition members learn compassion for each other, embracing individuality, and making difficult changes when necessary.

This is a process oriented therapy group. That means that we focus on the here and now, what actually happens in the group between the members. We talk about feelings that come up in the group, our emotional responses to each other, and the kind of relationships that develop during the process. We typically begin with a check in.  Each group member has the opportunity to talk for a few minutes about his week—any problem areas or concerns that come up during the week—and each one may claim time if he wants to spend more time talking about a specific issue or problem area.

Common Questions

Will I feel awkward?

It takes courage to join a process group, but you will find that Jonathan will structure the group well enough to provide an environment where everything can lead to positive change.  Many men fear that they are alone in their feelings, but the reality is that most men have similar concerns and can relate to each other well when they can be honest.

How long does the group last?

We suggest that you commit to 6 weeks.  At the end of that time, you will have options to either continue in a group or pursue relationships outside of group.

Is it confidential?

Confidentiality is extremely important in a group for men so all members of the group will be asked to commit to maintaining confidentiality.
