Caring attention for the whole family:

When one person in the family is experiencing stress, we know that it affects everyone.  That is why we make every effort when treating a child to also address the needs of parents and siblings.  Our child therapist uses play therapy with young children.  We also have male and female therapists who are experienced at helping teens work through the challenges that they face.

“One in five children suffers from a mental health or learning disorder, and 80% of chronic mental disorders begin in childhood.”

Common Questions

Can you test my child for ADHD?

We do have psychologists who can do testing for adults and children.  We also sometimes recommend that parents use their school's resources or their pediatrician who has brief tests that can rule out and determine some things.

Will you confront my teenager?

We know how stressful it can be to be stuck in a negative pattern with your child and not be able to understand each other.  In order to help families change their cycle and begin to understand themselves more deeply, we work hard to make each family member feel understood in the beginning.  When people feel safe, then we can begin to understand (and confront) all of their thoughts, feelings and behaviors much better.

How does play therapy work?

In play therapy, toys are like the child's words and play is the child's language (Landreth, 2002). Through play, therapists may help children learn more adaptive behaviors when there are emotional or social skills deficits (Pedro-Carroll & Reddy, 2005). The positive relationship that develops between therapist and child during play therapy sessions can provide a corrective emotional experience necessary for healing.
